The Community Foundation of St. Joseph County will host Give Local St. Joseph County, a one-day giving event, on Tuesday, May 5, 2015. It's our day to make a big impact! Every dollar donated on May 5 will be increased by a share of an estimated $3 million in matching funds provided by our generous Give Local St. Joseph County sponsors, with the goal of raising a total of $5 million.
The Community Foundation of St. Joseph County is a charitable endowment that improves the quality of life for the citizens of St. Joseph County and their succeeding generations. We’re working hard to build permanent resources that will support our community now and always.
How? We receive gifts from people who care about the St. Joseph County community, we invest these gifts forever, and we use the investment earnings to make grants each year to local charities. We support many of our community’s best nonprofits in two key ways.
We provide support to local charities from the Greatest Needs Fund, an unrestricted endowment that helps local nonprofits expand programs, improve facilities, and build capacity to better meet the needs of local citizens. The Greatest Needs Fund also provides flexible resources the Community Foundation uses to support major new initiatives addressing community needs and opportunities as they change over time.
We also help scores of local charities build and manage endowment funds. These funds are permanently invested and provide a reliable source of support to charities in good times and in bad.
Hundreds of additional funds have been established within the Community Foundation by your friends, your neighbors, and others who care about our county’s future. Individuals and families set up funds to benefit specific charities or to serve a field of charitable interest, such as the arts, educational scholarships, youth, or the environment. Many local corporations have set up funds as part of their strategy to support the local community.
